good afternoon,Ladies and gentlemen .The title of my speech is " The development of traditional culture " :

The 21st century has started a new history .Great changes have taken place in the world because of the prosperous development of technology and science .Maybe some of you have noticed that more and more people around us have started to learn a second language besides English .But maybe you will ask me “Isn’t it a good thing ” No ,absolutely not .It certainly meets the objective request of the economic globalization .But while we accept the western culture, some of us lost themselves in the ‘cultural sea’.The terrible ending will makes us lose our own traditional culture .So ,the cultural globalization which is caused by economic globalization may be harmful to our country’s scientific development.

As is well known to all ,culture is the pillar of science .But under the situation of globalization ,there are two extreme phenomena .One is some people call Mr West ’ .They accept western culture without any judgement ,and they don’t care whether it is good or not .For instance ,maybe someone has found that western festivals are more and more popular such as VALENTINE’S DAY.At the same time ,Chinese traditional festivals are fading away in our memories .we can’t image how a country could develop with its own culture lost.Well ,another is called ‘ Mr Old ’ ,in the contrary ,they refuse to accept any other cultures ,they blame that cultural globalization is a disaster .To our surprise ,they absolutely don’t know that exchanging culture can advance the development of science and technology .

my view of culture globalization as is known to all, kung fu panda 2 was shown recently and soon became a hot topic in china. surprisingly, this american film shows bright chinese images such as kungfu and panda. this is a good example of culture globalization. but there are two entirely different attitudes towards it. some people think it demonstrates the increasing influence of chinese culture. others, however, incline to take the opposite point of view and regard it as an invasion of native culture resources. as for me, i tend to take an open attitude towards culture globalization.

we can promote our own culture and meanwhile learn form other cultures, which is beneficial to all countries. finally, it is important to note that each culture has its own characteristics. with the evolving trend of culture globalization, we should be responsible for the development and spread of our national culture tradition.

The Chinese people, in their drinking of tea, place much significance on the act of "savoring." "Savoring tea" is not only a way to discern good tea from mediocre tea, but also how people take delight in their reverie and in tea-drinking itself. Snatching a bit of leisure from a busy schedule, making a kettle of strong tea, securing a serene space, and serving and drinking tea by yourself can help banish fatigue and frustration, improve your thinking ability and inspire you with enthusiasm.

You may also imbibe it slowly in small sips to appreciate the subtle allure of tea-drinking, until your spirits soar up and up into a sublime aesthetic realm. Buildings, gardens, ornaments and tea sets are the elements that form the ambience for savoring tea. A tranquil, refreshing, fortable and neat locale is certainly desirable for drinking tea. Chinese gardens are well known in the world and beautiful Chinese landscapes are too numerous to count. Teahouses tucked away in gardens and nestled beside the natural beauty of mountains and rivers are enchanting places of repose for people to rest and recreate themselves.

China is a country with a time-honored civilization and a land of ceremony and decorum. Whenever guests visit, it is necessary to make and serve tea to them. Before serving tea, you may ask them for their preferences as to what kind of tea they fancy and serve them the tea in the most appropriate teacups. In the course of serving tea, the host should take careful note of how much water is remaining in the cups and in the kettle. Usually, if the tea is made in a teacup, boiling water should be added after half of the cup has been consumed; and thus the cup is kept filled so that the tea retains the same bouquet and remains pleasantly warm throughout the entire course of tea-drinking. Snacks, sweets and other dishes may be served at tea time to plement the fragrance of the tea and to allay ones hunger.

hello everyone, today i want to say something about chinese traditional culture .

our chinese nation, with its industriousness and wisdom, has created a long and over-lasting history and a rich and colorful culture.as a chinese,we are supposed to understand the traditional culture and realize its importance.

first, what’s the traditional chinese culture .traditional chinese culture includes material and moral products of ancient chinese people. the moral products involve confucianism, taoism, legalism, buddhism and social system. material ones include historic and cultural relics, ancient architectures etc.no matter how broad chinese culture is, the core of it is the moral.

therefore.we can get an answer to another question.why should we learn chinese traditional culture,or we can say what’s the value of chinese traditional culture.as the core of chinese traditional culture is the moral, it can help us solve three major problems we are facing nowadays:problems of survival between man and nature;crisis of confidence between man and society;psychological problems exist in people ourselves.

for example, confucius believed that persuit of fortune is a general desire of human, but it most be limited by morality. people live for morality but not for fortune, and only in this way does life have value. if all the people in the society can realize this ,horse storm would not appear.

Chinese Spring Festival, also called Lunar New Year, has more than 4,000 years of history. Being one of the traditional Chinese festivals, it is the grandest and the most important festival for Chinese people. It is also the time for the whole families to get together, which is similar with Christmas Day to the westerners. Originating during the Shang Dynasty (about 17th - 11th century BC), Spring Festival, which celebrates family reunion, is full of rich and colorful activities, and hopes with theadventof spring and flowers blossoming. People from different regions and different ethnic groups celebrate it in their unique ways.

It comes on the first day of Chinese lunar calendar and lasts for almost half of a month. But in folk custom, this traditional holiday lasts from the 23rd day of the twelfth month to the 15th day of the first month (Lantern Festival) in the lunar calendar. Among these days, the New Year’s Eve and the first day of the New Year is the peak time. The exact days are different in every year according to the lunar calendar.

It is said that the custom of Spring Festival started in when people offered sacrifice to ancestors in the last month of Chinese lunar calendar. At that time, people prepared the sacrifice by doing thorough cleaning, having bathes and so on. Later, people began to worship differentdeitiesas well on that day. It is the time that almost all the farm works were done and people have free time. The sacrificing time changed according to the farming schedule and was not fixed until the Han Dynasty (202BC-220AD). The customs of worshipping deities and ancestors remains even though the ceremonies are not as grand as before. It is also the time that spring is coming, so people held all kinds of ceremonies to welcome it.

Preparing the New Year starts 7 days before the New Year’s Eve. According to Chinese lunar calendar, people start to clean the house on Dec. 24, butcher on Dec. 26th and so on. People have certain things to do on each day. These activities will end Jan. 15th of the lunar calendar.

Every family does a thorough house cleaning and purchases enough food, including fish, meat, roasted nuts and seeds, all kinds of candies and fruits, etc, for the festival period. Also, new clothes must be bought, especially for children. Red scrolls with complementary poetic couplets, one line on each side of the gate, are pasted at every gate. The Chinese character Fu is pasted on the center of the door and paper-cut pictures adorn windows.

The Spring Festival is a start for a new year, so it is regarded as theomenof a year. People have many taboos during this period. Many bad words related to “death”, “broken”, “killing”, “ghost” and “illness” or “sickness” are forbidden during conversations. In some places, there are more specific details. They consider it unlucky if thebarrelof rice is empty, because they think they will have nothing to eat in the next year. Taking medicine is forbidden on this day, otherwise, people will have sick for the whole year and take medicine constantly.

Food during this happy event has its characteristics, which is the representative of Chinese festival food culture. Dumplings and the reunion dinner are indispensable at this time. Cold and hot dishes are all served. Fish is always an important dish then, which expresses people’s hope of having a wealthy year.

In China, different places have their own traditions and activities to celebrate the Spring Festival. Beijing, Guangzhou, Xian and Pingyao are some good places to go if one intends to come during the time period. If one does not want to travel so long, but still want to enjoy the atmosphere of Chinese New Year, the local Chinatown is the best place.
