common sense would be revolted if we engaged upon this process for petty reasons. congress has a lot to do: appropriations, tax reform, health insurance, campaign finance reform, housing, environmental protection, energy sufficiency, mass transportation. pettiness cannot be allowed to stand in the face of such overwhelming problems. so today we are not being petty. we are trying to be big, because the task we have before us is a big one.
this morning, in a discussion of the evidence, we were told that the evidence which purports to support the allegations of misuse of the cia by the president is thin. we're told that that evidence is insufficient. what that recital of the evidence this morning did not include is what the president did know on june the 23rd, 1972.
the president did know that it was republican money, that it was money from the committee for the re-election of the president, which was found in the possession of one of the burglars arrested on june the 17th. what the president did know on the 23rd of june was the prior activities of e. howard hunt, which included his participation in the break-in of daniel ellsberg's psychiatrist, which included howard hunt's participation in the dita beard itt affair, which included howard hunt's fabrication of cables designed to discredit the kennedy administration.
we were further cautioned today that perhaps these proceedings ought to be delayed because certainly there would be new evidence forthcoming from the president of the united states. there has not even been an obfuscated indication that this committee would receive any additional materials from the president. the committee subpoena is outstanding, and if the president wants to supply that material, the committee sits here. the fact is that on yesterday, the american people waited with great anxiety for eight hours, not knowing whether their president would obey an order of the supreme court of the united states.
at this point, i would like to juxtapose a few of the impeachment criteria with some of the actions the president has engaged in. impeachment criteria: james madison, from the virginia ratification convention. "if the president be connected in any suspicious manner with any person and there be grounds to believe that he will shelter him, he may be impeached."
we have heard time and time again that the evidence reflects the payment to defendants money. the president had knowledge that these funds were being paid and these were funds collected for the 1972 presidential campaign. we know that the president met with mr. henry petersen 27 times to discuss matters related to watergate, and immediately thereafter met with the very persons who were implicated in the information mr. petersen was receiving. the words are: "if the president is connected in any suspicious manner with any person and there be grounds to believe that he will shelter that person, he may be impeached."

I have always admired the long healthy life my grandparents have. They are older than 80 years of age and they are still alive and kicking! How do they do that!? My grandparents plant vegetables and grow rice themselves; even in their old age they still make food for themselves! I guess that is why they can remain healthy. More importantly they remain humble and never ask for too much from life. Perhaps that makes them common, but they live a happy life. My grandmother once told me this:” I do not want to live long, only long enough for some grand children to be running around in my house”。 I want to live a long, healthy and happy life just as they have.
Since my graduation from primary school, until now, every time on my birthday I make the same wish. I wish my parents will not fight anymore. I am not complaining that they gave me a bad childhood, they just fight so much! I am unhappy but that does not mean they do not love me. They do! They love me with all their heart. I love my parents also; I want them to live a happy life as well.
I want to travel this great country of ours. I want to see the beauty of our country. I want to see the miracles that made this country great! I want to go from the east to west, from the north all the way down to the south! I have a dream, that one day I can travel and see my country with my family and friends! If that is not possible, seeing my country on my own is good enough also. If I can fulfill all three of my dreams in life, then God can take me away. I would be happy, and l would have lived a full and prosperous life.

1)比賽以公平公正為原則,以豐富和活躍校園生活、促進交流與溝通為宗旨,分為預賽和決賽二個階段,預賽在級部內部進行,由各級部自行組織實施,選出5名選手參與決賽。決賽在整個高二級部內部進行。
2)大賽分為自我介紹,演講比賽,才藝展示三個環(huán)節(jié)。依據(jù)評委打分計算出成績,最后頒發(fā)一等獎、二等獎、三等獎和參與獎。

the principal of the school focuses on education rather than waste time in endless meetings and social activities. teachers’ wages are not high but enough to live comfortably. there are no other things to do except to teach. there are no paper requirements, no titles and no ranks because they don’t need to be judged by those things. almost every teacher is a well-known scholar and master in a particular field. a language teacher may be a writer at the same time. a math teacher may try to overcome a world-class guess. a physics teacher can win invention awards and a music teacher may return from an international music competition again.

那天下午,我早早的來到了比賽場地。發(fā)現(xiàn)來了的同學們都在認真的看自己的演講稿,我找到一個比較靠前的座位,邊看演講稿,邊等待比賽的開始。
兩點整,比賽正式開始。主持人Vivian宣讀了比賽規(guī)則以及評分標準。然后讓我們到評委席去抽簽決定比賽順序。我本以為自己能抽到中間的位置,沒想到竟然抽了個第二?磥淼煤煤冒l(fā)揮了。
很快就輪到我了,我從老師的手中接過話筒,走上舞臺,先鞠了一躬。之后稍作停頓,開始了演講。我演講的內容是介紹我的學校生活,就像在家里無數(shù)次練習的那樣,內容早已背誦的滾瓜爛熟,我并不感到緊張。只是,中途不知為什么,話筒好像出了問題,時好時壞,使大家聽到的聲音是斷斷續(xù)續(xù)的。我沒有被這個小問題干擾到,努力大聲地演講,等話筒一好就稍稍減弱聲音。這樣,大家并沒有聽出聲音有什么變化。不知不覺中,我的演講內容結束了。這時候,輪到外教提問了。我走下舞臺,從一堆紙條里面任意抽了兩張,分別是banana和boy,我仔細看了一眼便作了回答。OK,我順利過關了,心情頓時輕松了不少。
接下來,開始聽其他選手演講。
我本以為這次參加演講的選手實力都很強,沒想到幾乎個個都緊張的不得了,影響了各自的實力發(fā)揮。這讓我懸著的心稍稍放了下來。
到了宣布結果的時候了,我緊張又認真的聽著。哦!我的總分是94分,竟然順利的進入了前三名,獲得三等獎!不光有獎學金,還有證書以及一套迪士尼學習用品?磥,我的努力沒有白費,如愿以償?shù)膶崿F(xiàn)了我得獎的愿望。
但是,我不能驕傲,不能滿足這小小的成績。今后我要再接再厲,多聽多練,爭取在英語口語方面更上一層樓,在以后的比賽中得到更好的成績。

一.活動背景:
英語作為一種國際通用語言,在國際交流與合作日益增多的今天,其主流地位和作用將會愈加凸顯。能否準確純熟地使用英語,特別是交流和演講能力的高低,將會直接影響到在校大學生今后的就業(yè)問題以及能否為國家和社會做出更大的貢獻。因此,大學生尤其迫切需要在不斷的鍛煉、比較和競爭中,注重培養(yǎng)英語交際能力,提高自身的綜合英語水平,才能在日趨激烈的社會競爭中找到自身的發(fā)揮之地。
二、活動目的:
本次由學習部舉辦的.信息學院英語演講比賽,旨在激發(fā)同學們的學習興趣和提高同學們的英語口語水平,以及提供一個可以展現(xiàn)自我,激勵他人的舞臺,并且加強在校大學生的競爭意識。
三、活動細節(jié):
1、活動時間地點及參賽人員:
初賽 : C317 11月4日晚六點半
決賽 : C317 11月10號晚六點半
參賽對象:山師信息學院所有學生
2、組委會成員:
宣傳部:海報設計,活動前期宣傳。
記者站:記錄活動現(xiàn)場情況,帶相機,人員2~3名。
自律部:維持現(xiàn)場秩序和處理突發(fā)事件,人員4~5名。
女生部:負責禮儀方面,選手頒獎。人員4名.。
學習部:指揮和安排整個活動進程。所有成員。
3、活動流程:
初賽:
(1)亮出自我
2分鐘以內有創(chuàng)意的自我介紹(有新意,印象深刻,要求感情豐富到位,發(fā)音清楚準確,語速適中,控場能力強。)
(2).“詞匯王”爭霸場
每位參賽選手五道詞匯分析填空題,每題答復限時10秒,積分制。
決賽:
(1).“PPT英語口語show”(滿分100分)
幻燈片主題可以為人物,風景,建筑,大事等感興趣話題,由選手自定。支持原創(chuàng),即相機手機記錄身邊事,或激動或批評或感悟,難忘等,結合英語配講。酌情加分。
(2).即興演講(滿分100分)
十六位晉級選手隨機自選多媒體屏幕所示十六道題號中一道(此為不同主題的情景題問答形式),30秒現(xiàn)場準備時間,口頭英語表達觀點,三分鐘時間上限。
要求:觀點新穎,發(fā)音標準,語速適中,語體正確,切忌漢式英語表達。
(3).秀出風采(100分)
英文秀藝前提下或歌曲或詩朗誦或情景模擬口語對話或其他。由選手自定。
如果是情景模擬對話要求至少兩人,時間適當,內容豐富,主題鮮明有啟迪意義。

As I sat next to her on the sofa, I stared at her soft eyes, wishing she was mine. After 2 hours, one Drew Barrymore movie, and three bags of chips, she decided to go to sleep. She looked at me, said "thanks" and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.
Senior year
The day before prom she walked to my locker. My date is sick" she said; he's not going to go well, I didn't have a date, and in 7th grade, we made a promise that if neither of us had dates, we would go together just as "best friends". So we did. Prom night, after everything was over, I was standing at her front door step. I stared at her as she smiled at me and stared at me with her crystal eyes. I want her to be mine, but she isn't think of me like that, and I know it. Then she said "I had the best time, thanks!" and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.
Graduation Day
A day passed, then a week, then a month. Before I could blink, it was graduation day. I watched as her perfect body floated like an angel up on stage to get her diploma. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn't notice me like that, and I knew it. Before everyone went home, she came to me in her smock and hat, and cried as I hugged her. Then she lifted her head from my shoulder and said, "you're my best friend, thanks" and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.
A Few Years Later
Now I sit in the pews of the church. That girl is getting married now. I watched her say "I do" and drive off to her new life, married to another man. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn't see me like that, and I knew it. But before she drove away, she came to me and said "you came!". She said "thanks" and kissed me on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.
Funeral
Years passed, I looked down at the coffin of a girl who used to be my "best friend". At the service, they read a diary entry she had wrote in her high school years. This is what it read: I stare at him wishing he was mine, but he doesn't notice me like that, and I know it. I want to tell him, I want him to know that I don't want to be just friends, I love him but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why. I wish he would tell me he loved me! `I wish I did too...` I thought to my self, and I cried.

I'm wuhaitao from the Development of Information Engineering. It's my honor to be here today to give you this speech. My topic is "protecting the environment". Looking around us,we can see that polluction is posing a threat to our earth, which comes in many ways. Millions of the chimneys of the factories are pouring heavy smoke into air,which causes serious air polution.
A large amount of waste water from factories pollutes water ,making the rivers fishless and our water unfit to drink and swim in. Further more,a lot of trees have been cut down without proper plans.,which continues to the soil being washed away. It seems that we really have no clean place to live in.
The pollution is so serious that we have to find effective solutions to it. As far as I'm concerned , the goverment should pass laws to reduce poiiuted air. Some measures should be taken to purify the water bsfore it is poured into the rivers or seas. We should plant more trees to keep the soil in place. What's more, people should be further educated to realize the importance of the environment pritection. Thus we will have clean and tidy environment.
Only in this way can we solve these problems.

四、活動簡述
本次活動面向全體中學生,比賽為初賽、復賽、決賽三個環(huán)節(jié);顒硬粌H能為同學們提供一個展示自己能力與才華的舞臺、豐富課余生活,而且可以提高同學們學習英語的熱情與激情。
五、活動流程
1、初賽、復賽(時間:10月8日—10月11日)
說明:初賽、復賽各班自行舉辦,每班選出8名英語口語、表達及綜合能力較強者進入復賽,在復賽中選出最優(yōu)秀的4名選手參加決賽。提倡辦出特色,辦出水平,推舉優(yōu)秀選手,以保證比賽質量。
2、決賽:(時間:10月17日星期四下午2:00—4:50)
說明:演講主題不限,選手可在主題范圍內自定小標題。演講內容可涉及學習、工作、生活中的點點滴滴,人生觀、價值取向,人與人之間的關系等方面。文體形式不限,可敘述、可議論、可抒情,但要真實,體現(xiàn)個性。語言風格要求生動活潑,有感染力。每人限時三分鐘。
(1)、選手演講順序于比賽前一天抽簽決定,參賽選手出場順序按抽簽決定,從小號到大號依次參加比賽。
(2)、比賽程序:
A。比賽開始:主持人入場,介紹領導,宣布賽制。B。選手依次登臺演講。
。3)、比賽規(guī)則:
A。 成績計算:評委根據(jù)選手綜合表現(xiàn)現(xiàn)場打分(評分保留兩位小數(shù)),評委成績中去掉一個最高分和一個最低分后的平均分為參賽選手的最終成績。
B。 參賽選手的最終成績,從高分到低分依次排列名次,確定獲獎等次。

七、工作安排和人員分配

1宣傳組 組長:(姚乾文)負責制作和打印評分標準、評分表、總分表。
2后勤組 組長:(李平:楊婕 張春花)負責比賽現(xiàn)場的布置,觀眾席安排及入場引導,采購和保管紀念品、獎品、黑色粗筆和中性筆。配合其他各組工作,保證比賽的順利進行。
3計分組 組長:(井萬文:史志鳳 蘆潔)負責計分、計時。

八、注意事項
1、提前通知所有參賽人員,若在比賽中,三次提示未到的選手,視為自動放棄比賽。
2、初賽各班選拔參賽選手要認真對待。
3、抽簽做到公平公正。
4、各負責人及評委保證比賽時的秩序,在每場比賽前做好充分的準備工作,以利于選手在比賽時發(fā)揮自己的最佳水平。
5、演講者到指定區(qū)域就坐,其他同學以班級為單位就坐。
6、評分要嚴格按照評分標準進行,最后負責人上繳評分原始材料。
7、選手進行3分鐘自選題目的演講,演講盡量為脫稿演講。
8、各班級選擇男女主持各一名;進入決賽選手名單、演講稿提前一周上交。

one day, the boy returned and the tree was so excited. “come and play with me,” the tree said. “i don't have time to play. i have to work for my family. we need a house for shelter. can you help me?” “sorry, but i don't have a house. but you can chop off my branches to build your house.” so the boy cut all the branches off the tree and left happily. the tree was glad to see him happy but the boy never came back since then. the tree was again lonely and sad.
one hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. “come and play with me!” the tree said. “i am sad and getting old. i want to go sailing to relax myself. can you give me a boat?” “use my trunk to build your boat. you can sail far away and be happy.” so the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat. he went sailing and never showed up for a long time. the tree was happy, but it was not true.
finally, the boy returned after he left for so many years. “sorry, my boy. but i don't have anything for you anymore. no more apples for you…” the tree said.
“i don't have teeth to bite,” the boy replied.
“no more trunk for you to climb on.”
“i am too old for that now,” the boy said.
“i really can't give you anything… the only thing left is my dying roots,” the tree said with tears.
“i don't need much now, just a place to rest. i am tired after all these years.” the boy replied.

比賽分為初賽和決賽兩階段:
初賽:
1、每位選手有1分鐘的自我介紹。40%
2、每十個選手一組,在特定的場景下,自由發(fā)揮想象,可以找搭檔表演也可個人表演,看誰能吸引評委的注意。準備時間2分鐘,表演3分鐘。60%

2、.故事接龍:選手分兩組進行

3、聯(lián)系校內媒體,中南青年,校報,廣播臺及校團委網(wǎng)站進行相關報道。
4、依據(jù)調查問卷,進行活動評估和總結。
